Post-translational modifications by ubiquitin and ubiquitin-like proteins (Ubls) have known roles in a myriad of cellular processes. Ubiquitin- and Ubl-binding domains transmit the information conferred by these post-translational modifications by recognizing functional surfaces and, when present, different chain structures.
