The wood duck is one of our most beautiful North American birds. This beautiful wetlands species is in decline, mostly due to draining of wetlands for agriculture and development and over-harvesting of their eggs and feathers. There is a great movement underway to help bring wood duck populations back to health through the use of nest boxes. While bluebird houses can be built and placed in the backyard, wood duck houses require more substantial materials, a bigger budget and a commitment to monitor and maintain them.
