We demonstrated a 20% rate of subsequent carbapenem-resistant Enterobacteriaceae (CRE)-associated infections among hospitalized CRE carriers. Independent factors associated with the infections were number of colonization sites, central-line insertion, and receiving vancomycin before colonization.
