Following this observation, we found an increase in the expression of Cdk2, a downstream target of p21, indicating a more rapid G1/S phase transition in Hdac1-deficient zebrafish hearts. The downregulation of Cdk1, a subsequent target of both p21 and Cdc25, stood out. A reduction in Cdc25 protein expression was observed in the Hdac1-deficient zebrafish embryos, leading to lower Cdk1 levels and implying a compromised progression of the G2/M cell cycle phase
