Bower bird nest While lots of species go all out to court a mate, few have the theatrical displays of the bower bird. dazzling bachelor pads, a kind of elaborate bird nest, are the work of males and can take years to build. They are decorated with a myriad of brightly coloured objects, usually made from scraps. Bottle caps, pegs, straws, coins, nails, pieces of glass and even toothbrushes may be found among the moss and twigs.
