For the first time in the history of Ukrainian cinema, the film "20 Days in Mariupol," directed by Mstislav Chernov, has clinched an Oscar, triumphing in the category of "Best Documentary Film."

Mstislav Chernov expressed:

"This marks the first-ever Ukrainian Oscar in history. I wish I had never had to create this film. I would trade this Oscar for Russia never invading Ukraine and refraining from attacking our cities again."

This year's award ceremony witnessed a truly historic moment – a Ukrainian film receiving its coveted statuette for the very first time in the annals of the Oscars. "20 Days in Mariupol," crafted by Ukrainian journalists Mstislav Chernov, Evgeniy Maloletka, and Vasilisa Stepanova, was crowned "Best Documentary Film" by the esteemed American Academy of Film Arts.

The top honors for the feature film category went to "Oppenheimer," a portrayal of the "father of the atomic bomb," Robert Oppenheimer.
