We analysed spatiotemporal properties of Ca2+ signals in protoplasmic astrocytes in the CA1 stratum radiatum of hippocampal slices from young (2-3 months old) mice housed in control conditions or exposed to a caloric restriction (CR) diet for one month. The astrocytic Ca2+ events became shorter in duration and smaller in size; they also demonstrated reduced velocity of expansion and shrinkage following CR.
