But just lately I've stumbled upon a e-book which constantly uses Jones's when speaking of a single Jones. The distinction between "I and my pals" and "my friends and I" is solely a matter of courtesy - they are both grammatically correct. I would tend to stay to the latter though, as it a) is more commonplace, b) is considered extra polite, c) seems to flow better.
