Employing a synergistic approach combining scanning transmission electron microscopy with ultrafast optical pump-probe techniques, we markedly increased the temporal resolution for differential phase contrast and convergent-beam electron diffraction imaging, by a factor of 10^12. Ultrafast nanoscale movies of physical quantities—crystal lattice deformation, magnetization vectors, and electric fields—are captured in nano-materials through the use of these methods.
