In the process of producing chiral α-hydroxyketones, alcohol dehydrogenases (ADH) play an important role. Until now, the only known enzyme capable of converting cyclic α-diketones with a specific preference was the ADH from Thauera aromatica. We expand the range of applicable enzymes by incorporating three alcohol dehydrogenases: CibADH from Citrifermentans bemidjiense, DecADH from Deferrisoma camini, and ThpADH from Thauera phenylacetica.
